Carbon fabric adhesive is a two-component epoxy-based special adhesive that plays a critical role in achieving high strength and lightweight structures. It is frequently preferred in the strengthening of reinforced concrete structures, as well as in the production of composite materials used in the aerospace and automotive industries. This adhesive ensures a strong bond of the carbon fabric to the structure, providing both extra strength and flexibility. Its solvent-free formula is environmentally friendly and creates a long-lasting bond. It is widely used especially in seismic regions for structural reinforcement and in protecting surfaces exposed to abrasion.
CARBON KY Fabric Adhesive
CARBON KY is a specially developed two-component epoxy resin-based adhesive. Its thixotropic structure allows easy application on vertical surfaces without sagging. It stands out with its impregnation ability of carbon fabrics and high adhesion strength.
Advantages
- Very easy to apply material.
- Water and gas impermeable.
- Designed for manual impregnation.
- Usable on vertical and overhead surfaces.
- Resistant to chemicals and abrasion.
- Excellent adhesion to concrete.
- High mechanical properties.
- Solvent-free.
Application Areas
Used for bonding carbon fiber reinforcement fabrics and for repairing all kinds of concrete, stone, marble, and similar materials.
Application Properties
Surface Preparation:
The application surface must be free from all dust, dirt, weak and loose particles, cement slurry residues, oil, and grease, and must be dry. The concrete substrate must be sound with sufficient compressive strength (at least 25 N/mm²) and tensile strength (pulloff) (at least 1.5 N/mm²). Damaged and unstable parts should be repaired with DryFiX DFR 200 (tix) to create a smooth surface.
Mixing Preparation:
The product is two-component and it is recommended to mix only the amount that will be consumed, considering the pot size. Excess mixed material cannot be used after the pot life expires. After adding component B to component A, mix with a low-speed electric mixer for 2-3 minutes (300 rpm) until a homogeneous color is obtained.
Application:
Wear rubber gloves and safety goggles during mixing and application to protect your skin and eyes. Do not add any foreign substances or water to the product. In hot weather, the product hardens immediately after mixing, so mix only the amount to be consumed. Do not apply if temperature is below +5°C. Cut and prepare the CARBON FABRIC as needed. Apply DryFiX Carbon KY epoxy resin to the concrete surface using a spatula or roller. Manually apply the CARBON FABRIC onto the surface coated with DryFiX Carbon KY, ensuring no air pockets remain. While doing this, use a grooved roller to push the epoxy resin underneath the carbon fabric outwards. Apply this process homogeneously across the entire surface so that epoxy resin appears on the upper surface. If the epoxy resin is insufficient, apply additional DryFiX Carbon KY epoxy resin on top to saturate the carbon fabric. If plastering is desired over the reinforced area, sprinkle silica sand on the finished surface to prepare it for plaster application.
Warnings and Recommendations
- Use appropriate safety equipment (mask, gloves, goggles).
- Protect your eyes and face.
- Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
- Read the Material Safety Data Sheet for detailed safety information.
- Wash all hand tools and application equipment immediately with clean water after use.
- Hardened and cured materials can be mechanically removed.
