Water Swelling Tape

Water Swelling Tape

Water swelling tape is a type of insulation material used at the joints of concrete structures, which expands when in contact with water and provides sealing. They are produced from materials such as thermoplastic elastomer or bentonite. These tapes prevent water from seeping into the structure, extending the life of the structures and reducing the risk of damage. They are widely used especially in projects such as foundations, curtain concrete, water tanks, tunnels and subways. Water intumescent tapes have an important place in modern construction techniques thanks to their easy applicability and high performance.

Water Inflatable Waterstop Tape

Water intumescent tape is a thermoplastic based intumescent tape suitable for use in concrete joints, construction joints and cold joints, auxiliary to waterproofing.

Advantages

  • Thanks to its flexibility and suitable cross-sectional dimensions, it is easily applied to all kinds of roughness and cavities on the surface.
  • It has fast and high expansion capacity.
  • It has infinite and reversible expansion (capacity to return to its original state).
  • Maintains dimensional stability even at high temperatures.
  • Suitable for contact with groundwater, tap water, salt water, pure water and alkaline water (cemented water).
  • Thanks to its dimensions, it is easy to apply even in areas with excessive reinforcement.
  • No primer required.
  • This dimensional change enables the material to form a water barrier and fill possible voids in the reinforced concrete structure.

Areas of Use

  • Cold joints and construction joints,
  • Foundation and curtain wall concretes,
  • Old and new concrete settlements,
  • Retaining perforations,
  • Water tanks and pools,
  • All kinds of constructions such as tunnels, subways, dams, highways, etc,
  • Sewers, water treatment plants and manholes,
  • Underground pipe and cable crossings,
  • At the joints of precast elements.

Surface Preparation

For very rough surfaces, necessary corrections should be made with repair mortars before application. The substrate must be durable and clean for application.

Application

  • Application should be made at least 8 cm from the area of the concrete that will be exposed to water.
  • Application can be done with suitable mounting adhesive or nailing method.
  • In the nailing method, nails can be applied at 15 cm intervals.
  • At the junction point of the two bands, the bands are joined by bringing them 50 mm side by side.
  • The surface may be damp during application, but there should be no puddles.

Points to consider

  • Store in dry and non-humid areas, protected from direct sunlight.
  • Pay attention to surface cleanliness and smoothness.
  • Not suitable for use in expansion joints.
  • Previously deformed tapes are not suitable for use.

Storage and shelf life

Store in the original package in a closed, dry and clean environment. Shelf life is 24 months.

Packaging

  • 20 m/roll with 5 x 20 mm width
  • 10 m/roll with 10 x 20 mm width

What is Waterstop Intumescent Tape?

Waterstop intumescent tape is a type of water-resistant adhesive tape specifically designed for use in humid or wet environments. Thanks to its waterproof feature, this tape is especially preferred in outdoor applications to prevent water leaks or to fix surfaces exposed to water. Waterstop intumescent tape is generally used in the construction, automotive and marine industries. Its adhesive surface swells when in contact with water, providing a more effective seal and offering long-term durability. Thanks to these features, it stands out as a reliable solution even in harsh conditions.

Waterstop intumescent tape can be used in many different areas with its water resistance and high adhesion strength. It is especially preferred in applications such as roof repairs, water tanks, pipe connections and waterproof cable connections. This tape expands when in contact with water, filling gaps and preventing water leaks. In addition, its resistance to UV rays and chemicals ensures a long-lasting use.

How to Apply Water Swelling Tape?

Water swelling tape application offers an effective solution, especially in areas that require waterproofing. It is of great importance that the surface is smooth and clean before application. On very rough surfaces, necessary corrections should be made with repair mortars and the substrate should be durable. Application starting at least 8 cm from the area of the concrete that will be exposed to water increases the performance of the tape and prevents water leaks.

The water swollen tape can be fixed with suitable mounting adhesive or by nailing. In the nailing method, the tapes are nailed to the surface at 15 cm intervals. This method ensures that the tapes stand more firmly, especially on vertical surfaces. At the junction points of the two bands, the bands are joined by bringing them 50 mm side by side. This detail is a critical step to ensure waterproofing.

A damp surface during application helps the tapes to adhere better. However, care should be taken to ensure that there are no puddles of water on the surface. Excessive water may adversely affect the swelling property of the tapes. Water swelling tapes provide long-lasting and effective waterproofing when applied correctly. For this reason, it is important to follow the application stages meticulously and comply with professional standards.
