Polyurethane-Bitumen Waterproofing Membrane – Bitumer 400 2K
Bitumer 400 2K – Polyurethane-Bitumen Waterproofing Membrane
Bitumer 400 2K is a fast-curing, two-component, bitumen-extended polyurethane liquid waterproofing membrane. It provides strong adhesion to a wide range of compatible substrates and forms a highly elastic, seamless protective layer with excellent chemical and mechanical resistance. The coating can be applied by brush, roller, trowel or airless spray equipment, with a minimum total consumption of 1.5 kg/m².
Applications
Suitable for waterproofing and protection of:
- Floors and foundations.
- Protected roof assemblies and green roofs.
- Gypsum boards and cement-based panels.
- Polyurethane insulation foams.
- Compatible bituminous and EPDM membranes.
- Bathrooms and wet areas beneath tiles.
- Balconies, terraces and verandas beneath protective finishes.
- Non-potable water tanks.
- Bridge decks.
Advantages
- Fast-curing, two-component formulation.
- Allows thick-film application with minimal risk of blistering when correctly applied.
- Unmixed components can be stored separately for future use under suitable storage conditions.
- Strong adhesion to a wide range of properly prepared substrates.
- Maintains flexibility at temperatures as low as -40°C.
- Excellent mechanical properties, including high elongation, tensile strength, tear resistance and abrasion resistance.
- Good resistance to various chemical exposures.
- Effective water vapor barrier properties.
- Forms a flexible, continuous waterproofing membrane.
Application Instructions
- Thoroughly clean the substrate, preferably using high-pressure water, and remove oil, grease, fuel, paraffin residues, formwork release agents, cement laitance, loose particles and existing membrane residues that could affect adhesion.
- Mix the components using a low-speed mechanical mixer at approximately 300 rpm and apply the prepared material immediately.
- The mixed material has a pot life of approximately 30–45 minutes at 20°C, depending on application conditions.
- Apply using a brush, roller, trowel or airless spray equipment.
- Rollers used for application are generally not suitable for reuse.
- Keep flammable materials and ignition sources away from the application area. Smoking is prohibited.
- Ensure adequate ventilation throughout application.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety goggles and chemical-resistant gloves.
- In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice.
- Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed handling and safety precautions.
- Keep the product out of reach of children.
- Application should be carried out by trained professionals in accordance with the technical data sheet.
Consumption
The recommended consumption is approximately 0.75–1.00 L/m² per coat. Apply a minimum of two coats to achieve the required waterproofing performance.
Total theoretical consumption: 1.5–2.0 L/m² for two coats.
Minimum total consumption: 1.5 kg/m², subject to the required membrane thickness and application conditions.
Storage Conditions
Store in the original, unopened packaging in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight, frost and moisture.
SHELF LIFE: 12 months under the recommended storage conditions.
Mixing Instructions
Before mixing, stir each component separately using a low-speed mechanical mixer. Combine Components A and B in the specified mixing ratio and continue mixing for several minutes until a uniform consistency is achieved.
The prepared mixture has a limited pot life of approximately 30–45 minutes at 20°C. Higher temperatures may shorten the working time, while lower temperatures may extend it. Prepare only the quantity that can be applied within the available pot life.
Surface Preparation
All substrates must be clean, sound and free from oil, grease, paraffin, cement laitance, loose particles, formwork release agents, poorly adhered existing membranes and other contaminants that could reduce adhesion.
Where possible, clean the surface using high-pressure water and allow it to dry before application. Repair cracks, surface defects and irregularities using suitable repair materials. Surface moisture must be assessed before selecting the appropriate primer.
Priming
For absorbent substrates such as concrete, cementitious surfaces, screeds and wood, DryFiX DFC 100 Epoxy Primer is recommended, provided the substrate moisture content does not exceed 5%.
For damp substrates requiring a moisture-tolerant primer, DryFiX DFC 108 may be used, subject to the product's technical requirements.
Apply the selected primer evenly using a brush or roller and allow it to cure as specified before applying the waterproofing membrane.
Subsequent coating applications should follow the recommended recoating interval. The interval between coats should not exceed 48 hours without checking the necessary surface preparation requirements.
